One of those nights

It seldom happens, but still happens nonetheless:
You're walking home, or watching out of the window
And you are hit with
The realisation
The sensation
The feeling
The reminder
That everything, and everyone
You've ever known, and will ever know
Sits upon a pointless tiny ball, adrift
Amidst an unimaginably vast sea of stars.
The cosmic expanse renders
Your hopes, dreams, fears and goals
Into nothingness. A blessing and a curse -
Nothing really matters, because we're barely even here;
A speck of a speck of a grain of sand
upon the biggest beach you'll never see.
And when nothing really matters, why care
That you're walking home, or watching out of the window?
Why continue with your trivial errands and plans,
When the universe has seen fit
To put your meaninglessness into perspective?
I'll tell you why - because nothing really matters, so do what you want.
Pursue your trivial errands and plans
And
Marvel at the universe when it seeks to belittle you.
Smile at the stars in their vastness, and be happy that you reside
upon the most beautiful pointless tiny ball of all the pointless tiny balls.
