Sometimes

Sometimes I just stop, sit and think:
. . .
"How can you all just carry on like this?
Like nothing even happened at all.
So much unprecedented loss, pain and change.
Were we in such a hurry to get back to what we knew,
That we forgot what we'd learned in our isolation?
The world took an enormous deep breath,
And there was a bizarre, unifying peace.
We breathed with the world, synchronised; in unison,
For, perhaps, the first time in history.
We gave Nature a vital moment to recover and regain,
And we turned our eyes inward; reflecting.
But the countdowns began, and before we knew it,
It was all over.
Nothing but a distant dream, a meme, a repressed dark patch."
. . .
Am I the only one who still feels the need to stop for air?
