The Road Home

Treacherous footing,
Troublesome forks.
Rubble and ruin underfoot -
Riddles laid out in geographical form
All the way to the horizon.
The road home is never an easy one;
If it were, it would not have
Taught you the lessons you've learned,
Given you your stories to tell
Nor shown you all the sights you saw
Along the path.
Know this -
The lack of ease in your return
renders the return itself
all the sweeter.
And so, onward -
Rubble and ruin underfoot;
The horizon beckons,
And Home is nigh.
